This Mechanical Designer will design and develop ‘best in class” tools and processes required to deliver theatrical automation, stages, live sets, kinetic architecture to the entertainment industry.  There is an opportunity to focus on driving innovation into the market space for portables, permanent installation, kinetic architecture, and corporate events. This position will be charged with heavily supporting a team-based design approach. In this role you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and have the ability to effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

The TAIT group delivers outstanding engineering solutions to the entertainment industry, designing and installing equipment and machinery for the world’s most prestigious venues and touring shows across the globe. We design, manufacture, install and maintain stage engineering and stage rigging equipment to venues and provide rental equipment and bespoke set pieces to many of the “A” list music tours. We create a wide range of standard and special-purpose machinery including power flying systems, individual or special purpose hoists, stage floors, lifting platforms, revolving stages, wagons, special effects and bespoke automation. This encompasses many disciplines including static and moving structures, and mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic drive trains, closely integrated with electrical and control systems.

 

Work is project-based and, whilst focussed on specialised machinery and fabrications primarily for the entertainment technology industry, draws on mainstream engineering principles and practices. Our combination of design and manufacture underpins our ability to deliver unique equipment for permanent venue-based installations as well as short- and long-running shows, often in short lead-times.

As part of the Support department you will be providing support to customers during breakdowns and in the case of general enquiries.  Additionally you will carry out system upgrades, modifications and inspections/maintenance.  Some basic mechanical work will be included with this role.

Overview:

This role reports to the engineering manager and provides analysis driven engineering support to the design studios and project management across all product lines.  Engineers in this role are involved at all stages of the creation of our most complex projects from concept development to the sizing of individual components, and supporting as-built changes through fabrication.

Purpose:

When presented with a ‘show’ the role of a Designer – Packaging Specialist is to understand the show in it’s entirety and to arrive at a design solution up to the standards set forth by Tait Towers, while considering cost effectiveness and efficiency. The Designer – Packaging Specialist is also involved in the planning of their daily work so each day they are working toward achieving their design milestones and deadlines.  A Packaging specialist will also be involved in design meetings to facilitate upfront communication about packaging requirements, I.E. space allotted, time to install, where it is traveling.

The CNC Milling Machinist I will set up and operate vertical and horizontal computer numeric control milling machines to perform one or more functions on componentry.  Reverse engineer parts and sub-assemblies as necessary; maintain quality and safety standards while meeting customer expectations and timelines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
