Our customers come to us because we have a reputation for continuously challenging the industry to do things better, with innovation and excellence at our core. You’ll be a key part of the team that makes this happen and helps us to keep pushing the boundaries.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll be designing, prototyping and testing the mechanical aspects of a wide variety of products including rack mounted electrical/electronic products, hoist & winch machinery conversions and related structural interfaces. You’ll also spend a proportion of your time helping to maintain and support Kinesys existing product line – we love continuous improvement!

Our uncompromising approach to safety and functionality is a large part of our product appeal; we need you to help us maintain our high standards and meet our customer’s demands.

Responsibilities

  • You’ll be the heart of the mechanical design function of the Engineering team and responsible for the whole product life cycle from concept generation through prototype phases, testing, and final detailed design for manufacture.
  • You’ll be responsible for managing your time to deliver projects on time and within budget, as well as keeping the team informed of your progress
  • You’ll come up with creative design solutions based on sound engineering principles, making intelligent use of existing field proven methods to reduce technical risk
  • You’ll work actively with our Production team to ensure your designs transfer well to manufacture, creating necessary assembly documentation and seeking feedback to refine your designs and drawings
  • You’ll carry out engineering calculations to analyse problems and validate solutions, e.g. stress and deflection of structures, power and torque of drivetrains, the inertia of machinery and mechanisms
  • You’ll use your knowledge of modern methods in sheet metal manufacturing and CNC machining to design components for cost effective manufacture
  • You’ll work to recognised EN standards to achieve safe and reliable products ready for the rigours of life on the road in the demanding world of entertainment
  • You’ll produce clear and accurate drawings, parts lists and supporting calculations
  • You’ll effectively critique your work and that of your peers to eliminate errors to the best of your ability; you’ll utilise our online issue tracking system to manage tasks and issues to conclusion.
  • You’ll work with our Purchasing team to help select suppliers and obtain competitive quotations
  • You’ll aid effective management of projects by confidently breaking down your activities into logical work packages ready for implementation on schedule
  • You’ll make sure we do things right by developing and executing test plans, ensuring products are correctly labelled with relevant safety warnings, as well as aiding our Technical Author in documenting our mechanical products
  • You’ll collaborate with Electrical and Electronics Engineering team members to ensure effective electro-mechanical integration of prototypes and new products

Qualifications

  • You’ve got an excellence mindset, always aiming for right first time
  • You’re a fast learner and ask the right questions to extract the information you need
  • You like structure and process and are a natural born problem-solver, but you’re flexible enough to drop what you’re doing and go where you’re needed
  • You have favourite tools and techniques that help you do a great job of tackling complex challenges
  • You’re a details person, taking a focused and analytical approach to your work
  • You thrive on innovating, improving and asking ‘what if…’
  • You take part and join in. You understand that you have a voice and enjoy collaborating with others to make things happen
  • You’re self-motivated and get a buzz from taking ownership of your work, delivering what’s needed, on-time
  • You like to challenge yourself, honing your craft every day. You want to create a reputation for yourself as a mechanical design master, but understand this takes time and dedication to the art

Your experience and knowledge

  • You’ve got solid, demonstrable experience with (preferably) Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD for 3D design and modelling; however, if you have equivalent experience with comparable 3D systems e.g. SolidWorks then we’re open to supporting your transition to our Autodesk world.
  • You’ve got hands-on prototyping skills and love getting involved in your own projects at home
  • Experience of Corel Draw or equivalent photoshop package for silkscreen design and editing is an advantage
  • Experience with automation and/or motion control projects is an advantage
  • You might have a degree in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or Engineering Technology. Alternatively, you may have gained your expertise through a less conventional path
  • You’ve got sound experience of using Microsoft Office
  • You’re comfortable balancing the demands of multiple projects when required
  • An awareness and/or experience of the entertainment industry would be an advantage
