Based at Brilliant Stages in Wakefield, West Yorkshire and part of the TAIT Group.  We are currently looking for a Saw Operator. 


Position Purpose


Saw Operators play a key role in our manufacturing process, producing parts using computer numerically controlled (CNC) saws and manual saws, Guillotines to cut and produce precision components. Essentially, a Saw Operators' goal is to ensure effective production operations and optimize procedures to produce high quality, precision parts. Other essential duties include maintaining machines to highest possible standards, interfacing with other departments to solve problems, observing processes that support the wider business, Stock control, having an active role in site safety, and ensuring that, with an emphasis collaboration and teamwork, we always strive to execute on manufacturing to the highest possible standards.


Main Outcomes of the Position

  • Manufacture of components to supplied CAD files and drawings.
  • This will encompass setting and operating computer numerically controlled saws and manually setting and operating a range of saw types.
  • Whenever possible you will be required to set and operate more than one machine.
  • Ensures that work area is clean and housekeeping in the workplace is kept to a high standard.
  • Complete work allocated in a timely manner.
  • Maintain delivery of quality projects to scheduled department/Delivery dates.
  • Work with other departments to solve problems and improve efficiencies.
  • Use of individual training platform to facilitate personal growth.
  • Ensures that the working environment is safe.
  • Ensure material stocks are kept in line with company procedures.
  • Ensure part ID is inline with company procedures.


Key responsibilities

  • Read, interpret, follow engineering drawings to manufacture precision parts.
  • Ensure parts are manufactured to desired tolerances as instructed.
  • Perform single & double head cutting.
  • Perform compound cutting.
  • Guillotine setting.
  • Understanding of clamping systems.
  • Understanding of extraction system & maintenance.
  • Operate Elucad software to load programs.
  • Work within & according to health & safety guidelines to maintain personal and others safety.
  • Work to process, incorporating SSOW’s/Quality standards. (clean, Deburred etc)
  • Periodically check all equipment is maintained to high standards and report issues.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance including but not limited to checking oil, grease and coolant, Blade changing.
  • Perform housekeeping in area including but not limited to sweeping, mopping and cleaning tools and machines.
  • Evaluate materials/parts etc before activities carried out and on completion of parts conform to quality checks. Report via NCR if any issues.
  • Maintain clean & safe working environment.
  • Comply with clock procedures to comply with company processes.
  • Be flexible to perform duties throughout other departments.
  • Engage in personal development programs/Training.
  • Operate within individual & team environment maintaining work ethics individually and alongside other team members.
  • Ownership/Identification of all cut parts (Marking/Labelling of parts manufactured)
  • Ensure all scrap materials are placed in appropriate recycling/waste bins.
  • Ensure all spare materials are placed in appropriate storage place with correct GRN displayed.
  • Record & notify any material usage not issued with cutting cards.
  • Communication between line manager/colleagues.


Foundation / Position Requirements

  • Must be an experienced machine operator.
  • Previous experience in operating cutting machines.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing precision components.
