    The focus of the Level I Buyer is to solicit bids and negotiate for purchase of services from subcontractors, finished goods, and raw materials that fall within their assigned jurisdiction and spending limitations under the direction of the Procurement Manager to increase efficiency and quality while serving Tait Towers clients, employees, and the principles and priorities of the company. Reporting into the Purchasing department, the Buyer engagement is custom products as well as raw material purchases, inventory stock, and facility needs.  


    Essential Responsibilities

    • Own the daily relationship/communication with external vendors and owners for assigned clients/projects.
    • Process Purchase Orders based off show demand, inventory levels, and indirect requirements while negotiating cost and delivery with external vendors.
    • Continually work with functional owners to identify and implement improvements
    • Negotiate prices on goods, and to find the best price for the quality required per application. Thus, the buyer needs to have a sense of the company's standards for quality, and to be able to select products that fall into the guidelines.
    • Work with various department directors representing Project Management, Production, and Design / Engineering to ensure accurate and timely communications regarding new launches, revisions, or changes to Tait Towers property or projects.
    • Coordinate execution of forecasts and insure costs stay within the budgetary guidelines
    • Create and manage project plans on a per vendor basis in conjunction with the logistics manager to arrange transport both to and from the vendor facility.
    • Liaise with Tait designers to provide adequate technical data to sub-contractors for their given projects. Counsel designers on where and how items should be released to sub-contractors to streamline operations.
    • Develop feedback from Tait production, design, project management, and clients back to the vendors to continuously improve quality and efficiency.
    • Analyzes market conditions; keeps abreast of trends; explores sources of supply; studies new products; and researches departments’ requests for all products and commodities.
    • Maintain inventory minimums and maximums for stock parts as they relate to the uses of Tait production by monitoring annual releases that are established with sub-contractors. Work with inventory analysts to adjust additional stock levels. Work directly with Inventory and Shipping and Receiving to ensure parts delivery to locations is on time and accurate.
    • Communicate within purchasing department on a constant basis to make sure that the needs of production, clients, employees and rental (when needed) are met.
    • Work with accounting to ensure POs and invoices match for payments to be processed.
    • Performs other duties as assigned such as general buying for Tait Towers.


    Education and Qualifications

    • BS Degree – Business preferred
    • 2-5 years of practical experience in procurement, preferably within industrial supply or manufacturing
    • A combination of training, education, and experience that is equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
    • Epicor Software experience preferred.
    • Microsoft Office software understanding a must.


    Ideal Certifications that would be in addition to education:

    • Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) and/or
    • Certified Professional Public Buyer (CPPB) or similar.


    This job has the potential for stress, as buyers are working in a competitive field, often within tight deadlines. So, a certain level of physical and mental stamina is required. Often, a buyer must work beyond the normal work hours, to fulfill supply needs, and to contact suppliers in another area or time zone, by a specified deadline.
