The TAIT group delivers outstanding engineering solutions to the entertainment industry, designing and installing equipment and machinery for the world’s most prestigious venues and touring shows across the globe. We design, manufacture, install and maintain stage engineering and stage rigging equipment to venues and provide rental equipment and bespoke set pieces to many of the “A” list music tours. We create a wide range of standard and special-purpose machinery including power flying systems, individual or special purpose hoists, stage floors, lifting platforms, revolving stages, wagons, special effects and bespoke automation. This encompasses many disciplines including static and moving structures, and mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic drive trains, closely integrated with electrical and control systems.
Work is project-based and, whilst focussed on specialised machinery and fabrications primarily for the entertainment technology industry, draws on mainstream engineering principles and practices. Our combination of design and manufacture underpins our ability to deliver unique equipment for permanent venue-based installations as well as short- and long-running shows, often in short lead-times.
Educated to master’s degree level, or equivalent, meeting academic requirements for membership of IMechE or for PE registration in the US.
Chartered or Professional Engineer.
Proficiency in 3D parametric modelling package(s); and
Sound knowledge of mechanical engineering science and practice. (Stress & deflection of structures, power & torque of drivetrains, inertia of machinery and mechanisms, design for global environmental conditions, aerodynamics and fluid mechanics).
Familiarity with published engineering design standards; and
Familiarity with Catia for 3D modelling and documentation.
Extensive experience of working with clients to develop specifications, engineering solutions and schedules and of working as part of an integrated delivery team including sales, project managers, multi-disciplinary engineers, production and factory colleagues; and
Wide experience of engineering design and project delivery encompassing large scale automation and capital projects through high precision, safety critical devices in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
Experience of mechanical handling and/or lifting equipment, hydraulics, structural design, automation, small and large scale capital projects, power transmission, drives and controls; and
Exposure to both manufacturing and construction-industry practices, including factory and site work.
Exceptional analytical and numerical competency for substantiating designs by calculation; and
Thorough understanding of first principles and experience of applying these to real-world applications.
An aptitude for hands-on engineering demonstrated through work or personal activities.

Expertise in one or more of: structures, hydraulics, industrial power transmission, motor drives and controls.
Interest in the performing arts.
