  • Overview

    The CNC Milling Machinist I will set up and operate vertical and horizontal computer numeric control milling machines to perform one or more functions on componentry.  Reverse engineer parts and sub-assemblies as necessary; maintain quality and safety standards while meeting customer expectations and timelines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.   

    Responsibilities

    • Set up and operate CNC mills and/or lathes.
    • Works from a preordered list of parts with little or no supervision.
    • Conducts inspections on finished parts to insure quality standards.
    • Assists with efforts to upgrade, maintain, and manage drafting standards and procedures.
    • Set up/Operate CNC equipment as well as manual equipment if required without supervision.
    • Change cutting tools and adjust machine feeds and speeds as needed without assistance.
    • Establish and ensure department standards for safety, delivery, quality, and quantity are met
    • Resolve problems by making decisions to correct constraints independently.
    • Assist in equipment set up for Level I and II CNC Machinists to help eliminate non-conformance and spindle down time
    • Perform first part inspections
    • Identify root causes and corrective action for quality problems independently.
    • Utilize measuring equipment used in the industry such as calipers, micrometers, height gauge and other measuring equipment needed to complete work.
    • Utilize production work orders, kits, and electronic lists to establish priorities.
    • Ensure all documentation is complete and correct.
    • Use prescribed procedures to inspect part(s) and product(s) produced to assure compliance to specifications that will eliminate defects, scrap, rework, etc. Ensure part(s) meet all Tait Quality requirements.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent 
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with CNC machining, technical drawings, and specifications or equivalent education/experience is required
    • Journeyman Machinist certification from an approved Apprenticeship Program and/or documentation of current enrollment in the Apprenticeship program is a plus.
    • Experience with vertical and horizontal milling 3-axis needed; multi-axis preferred (4-axis; 5th axis)
