  • Overview

    Purpose: To work within the Electrical Design team on the hardware design of the Electrical control systems for theatre scenery Automation Projects.


    Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:


    • To perform the detailed hardware design of the control cabinets, site installation and cabling for theatre scenery automation projects.
    • To liaise with external clients and internal engineers to ensure your designs co-ordinate with site and technical requirements.
    • To prepare right first-time designs for manufacturing, installation and commissioning.
    • To understand and apply the appropriate standards.
    • To perform and record calculations to prove that your designs work and meet the relevant standards.
    • To produce and maintain detailed schematics, manufacturing drawings, cable schedules, wiring lists, parts lists and test sheets using Eplan Electric P8.
    • To produce and maintain Bills of Materials using Excel.
    • To maintain close relationships with production and external suppliers to ensure delivery to agreed schedules.
    • To work in multi-disciplinary teams on a variety of projects – often concurrently and to tight timescales.
    • You will be required to take on any other responsibilities or tasks which are within the employee's skills and abilities whenever reasonably instructed

    Educational Attainment

    Electrical Engineering Degree

    Apprentice trained.


    Knowledge Required

    Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.

    Good understanding of motor control and PLC application and integration.

    Understanding of the fundamentals of electro-mechanical power calculations.

    Thermal calculations for cabinet cooling.

    Power supply sizing.

    Cable sizing.

    EN60 204 / 17th Edition.

    CE Marking.

    IEC 61 508


    Experience Required

    Eplan Electric P8.

    Industrial automation.

    Electrical panel building.

    Supervising panel building.

    General Intelligence

    Above 2:1 for degree standard or equivalent.

    Industrial experience

    Skills and Aptitudes Required

    Ability to produce Technical reports and documents;


    Ability to work alone or supervised;

    Excellent communication and organisational skills;

    Work to tight deadlines





    Personal Qualities Required

    Reliable, honest, accurate, detail focussed, articulate, calm under pressure, practical, cooperative, confident, flexible.



    Current UK driving licence.

    Permission to work in the UK
