When presented with a ‘show’ the role of a Designer – Packaging Specialist is to understand the show in it’s entirety and to arrive at a design solution up to the standards set forth by Tait Towers, while considering cost effectiveness and efficiency. The Designer – Packaging Specialist is also involved in the planning of their daily work so each day they are working toward achieving their design milestones and deadlines.  A Packaging specialist will also be involved in design meetings to facilitate upfront communication about packaging requirements, I.E. space allotted, time to install, where it is traveling.


Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Take rough models, ideas, sketches, and/or concepts and become familiar with the project
  • Identify and insert any and all known items required for the project
  • Study different concepts or approaches to fulfill the design of the project and determine a design direction
  • Begin to flush out the concept by continuing to add detail
  • Manage the project in terms of file/folder structure
  • Maintain an updated master, simple, and exploded drawing file in the root job folder
  • Manage and keep back-saves of all progress
  • Ensure projects are broken into appropriate sub-assemblies
  • Review for mistakes, crashes, and the functionality of the concept
  • When designing items, focus on the 20% of the design that will get production 80% of their work
  • Identify which parts of the design we can commit to and begin releasing to production
  • Formulate possible solutions to most problems
  • Ability to make judgment calls with regard to details and issues



  • Two OR Four year Design, Theatrical, or Engineering Degree, preferred
  • An internship and/or work experience in a fast-paced environment, also preferred
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, required
  • Strong organizational skills, required
  • Must be self-motivated and have a sense of urgency
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, preferred (electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic)
  • Knowledge of Inventor, preferred
